Our summer events season started with a splendid group lunch at the bistro – or more accurately Brasserie Blanc in Gunwharf. Food, service and value were all excellent and (unlike too many places) they don’t ask you to put down your money in advance or charge for a jug of tap water. The ‘creative’ spelling on some of the place name cards raised a chuckle – they managed to get mine right while tripping over some of the easier ones.
We had a jolly good chat, with topics ranging up and down the long table, and I think we all got to know each other a little better. This was what we were aiming for. Some members even braved the heat and took the opportunity for a little retail therapy.
Special thanks are due to Mike White who pulled the show together and dealt with a late change in the menu options.
Incidentally, my mother once met Raymond Blanc at a book launch there, to her delight. The only thing was, he refused to speak French! Now there’s integration!
Lunch at the bistro was just the start. Next up, our Portsmouth Royal Dockyard Historical Trust tour on 20 August then Airframe Assemblies on 18 September. After that, back to our brilliant programme of autumn / winter speakers. Please see the Events page for details of all future attractions.
