Members had a fascinating day trip to the Classic Boat Museum and Gallery at Cowes on 7th June, ably organised by member Nick Hawkins. It was an eye-opening reminder of the extraordinary history of craftmanship and innovation on the Island encompassing flying boats, powered and sail racing boats, lifeboats transatlantic rowing boats and some frankly weird craft. Lunch at the Duke of York pub was a welcome opportunity to gather our wits and swap notes. The chain ferry was working (!) but the return hovercraft trip was a bit chaotic owing to earlier disruption.
